Choosing The Right Keyboard

Don't go cheap on a keyboard, always go just that bit more because keyboards are the most used accessory for a computer, they need to be durable, smooth and comfortable. Uncomfortable keyboards will become apparent immediately, your hands will cramp and there will be money wasted. Also read the reviews for keyboards, look at the pros and cons.

Wireless keyboard may look fancy and amazing but the low end ones have a short range and a low battery life, so if you want a wireless one be prepared to pay more than expected.

Also light up ones look damn awesome.

Stronger Passwords

Just a tip, when making new passwords, why not think of a phrase and then use the first letter of each word and use that as the password. As an example if we use 'I like chocolate but not vegetables' you would get 'ilcbnv' which will be a very strong password as the letters, to others, have no meaning or links but to you are very memorable.

VLC Media Player

VLC Media Player is, as the name suggests, a media player. It is very lightweight and not very taxing on your computers resources, it can play virtually any file (audio or video) that you throw at it (I have been using VLC for many years now and have yet to come across a file it cant play). I really reccomend you try VLC, and why not, it's free and works on most platforms including Windows, Mac OS X, Ubuntu, Android, Debian etc.

Speccy

This is another useful piece of sofrware made by Piriform, it allows you to see what exactly is inside your computer and check what temperature everything is running at. Very simple, but it can be very useful.

Defraggler

Running a defrag on your computer re-arranges where everything is on the hard disc, the files are re-arranged so that ones that are likely to be used together are close by for increased speed when using your computer. Defraggler by Piriform improves on the defrag software provided by Microsoft, it will tell you how fragmented (unorganised your hard drive is) from a quick analysis allowing you to decide if you need to run the defrag.
Best of all defraggler is free! So why not give it a go and see if it can speed up your computer.
